Most Vehicle Recyler/Wreckers Must Be Covered By The Washington State General Industrial Stormwater Permit.

On September 14, 2010, the Automotive Recyclers of Washington held a training workshop to help vehicle recyclers comply with the Washington State General Industrial Stormwater Permit.  That presentation can be viewed by clicking on the following link or going to the following Internet address:  www.youautorecycle.com/stormwaterworkshop09142010.pdf

On January 1, 2010, the newest Washington State General Industrial Stormwater Permit took effect.  This permit covers vehicle recyclers that may expose stormwater to any contamination.  The permit requires (but is not limited to)

o        The vehicle recycler/wrecker submitting a Notice of intent to be covered by the permit

o        The vehicle recycler/wrecker is required to prepare and select, and implement Best Management Practices to minimize the contamination of stormwater and identify the BMPs they implement at their facility as part of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan SWPPP.  The BMPs are to be selected using the appropriate Stormwater Management Manual which can be found using the following link or going to the following Internet address:  http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/stormwater/industrial/guidance.html
