Most Vehicle Recyler/Wreckers Must Be Covered By The Washington State
General Industrial Stormwater Permit.
On September 14,
2010, the Automotive Recyclers of Washington
held a training workshop to help vehicle recyclers comply with the Washington State General Industrial Stormwater Permit.

On January 1,
2010, the newest Washington
State General Industrial
Stormwater Permit took effect. This
permit covers vehicle recyclers that may expose stormwater
to any contamination. The permit
requires (but is not limited to)

The vehicle
recycler/wrecker submitting a Notice of intent to be covered by the permit
o
The vehicle
recycler/wrecker is required to prepare a Stormwater
Pollution Prevention Plan SWPPP by July 1, 2010 Click on the following link or go to the following

The vehicle
recycler/wrecker is required to prepare and select, and implement Best
Management Practices to minimize the contamination of stormwater
and identify the BMPs they implement at their
facility as part of the Stormwater Pollution
Prevention Plan SWPPP. The BMPs are to be selected using the appropriate Stormwater Management Manual which can be found using the

The vehicle
recycler is required to provide training to its employees on complying with the
SWPPP. Details are explained on page 18

The vehicle
recycler/wrecker is required to take stormwater
samples once every calendar quarter.

recycler/wrecker is required to submit a Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR)
following each calendar quarter. Click

recycler/wrecker is required to have a qualified person complete a site

The vehicle recycler/wrecker is
required to complete a monthly inspection report following each monthly

contaminant benchmarks (limits) listed on pages 25 and 26 of the General

recycler/wrecker is required to take correction actions when they exceed any of
