Common Environmental Errors Made by Vehicle Recyclers
Last year, the Automotive Recyclers of Washington, under a grant from the Department of Ecology, engaged in voluntary inspections of vehicle recycling facilities all across the state. You will hear the most common environmental mistakes made by vehicle recyclers from these inspections, and how to correct them.
Mercury Switch Recovery Program
Washington State has one of the most successful mercury switch recovery programs in the nation. You will learn tips on making the collection fast and easy, and you will learn about new materials and collection buckets.
Stormwater
Every vehicle recycler with stormwater runoff from their property is required to comply with the state and federal stormwater permit requirements. A new stormwater permit is in the works. Learn the latest about the stormwater permit issues as they relate to your facility.
PBDE
PBDE is in almost every vehicle and has been found to be toxic and of significant environmental concern. PBDE is a fire retardant that is added to almost every component of the interior of a car or truck. The Department of Ecology has developed and the Legislature has passed legislation dealing with PBDE. Learn how the new PBDE chemical action plan will affect vehicle recyclers.
UIC
Do you have a drain field, dry well or stormwater pond into which you discharge stormwater? These drain fields, drywells and stormwater ponds are subject to state UIC (Underground Injection Control) regulations that affect vehicle recyclers. Learn the latest.
Dangerous Waste Rules
Every vehicle recycler must comply with the state’s Dangerous Waste Rules. This will be a quick refresher course and a chance for you to ask questions about these requirements as they apply to your facility.
Scrap Metal
The Legislature recently passed new requirements on firms that accept scrap metal from the public because there are far too many drug addicts who are stealing metal products and selling them as scrap metal to fund their drug habits. Find out how this all affects you as a vehicle recycler.
Used Tires
The Legislature passed and the Department of Ecology is implementing a long-term state plan to deal with the disposal of used tires. Learn the latest on proposals dealing with used tires as they affect vehicle recyclers.
Air Regulations and Vehicle Recyclers
Vehicle recyclers must comply with air regulations. You will have a quick refresher course on what you must do as a vehicle recycler to comply.
Legislative Proposals That Affect Vehicle Recyclers
Every year the Washington Legislature considers a number of pieces of legislation affecting vehicle recyclers. You will hear the latest at this workshop.

Vehicle recyclers must comply with a very large number of environmental regulations or face potential citations, fines, or even citizen lawsuits. YOU can reduce your risk of citations, fines and lawsuits by attending this workshop designed just for licensed auto wreckers in Washington because environmental compliance is NOT OPTIONAL, it is required. This is your best chance to find out what’s new and what is required of you as a vehicle recycler BEFORE the inspector arrives with his/her citation book. Owners, managers, environmental managers and other key personnel will all benefit. If it is not feasible for more than one of you to attend at a time, please take advantage of the different dates and locations so that all of your key people can attend a workshop. It’s that important! Look at the list of workshop locations and dates, and select the ones that fit your schedule.
